RN Requirement:
Licensed by examination: 

  • 30 hours every two years (after first renewal).

Licensed by endorsement or reinstatement: 

  • at least 1 year but less than 2 = 15 contact hours
  • 2 years or more = 30 contact hours

Licenses expire on February 28, May 31, or September 30 of odd years. Renewal requires attestation of CE completion and practice of at least 1,000 hours in the past five years or 400 hours in the past two years.

LPN Requirement:
Licensed by examination: 

  • 24 hours every two years (after first renewal).

Licensed by endorsement or reinstatement: 

  • at least 1 year but less than 2 = 12 contact hours
  • 2 years or more = 24 contact hours

Licenses expire on February 28 of even years. Renewal requires attestation of CE completion and practice of at least 1,000 hours in the past five years or 400 hours in the past two years.

All RNs and LPNs must complete three hours of CE in the area of substance abuse.

APN Requirement:
Licenses expire on February 28, May 31, or September 30 of odd years. Renewal requires attestation of one of the following practice requirements in the role and population focus area in which you are licensed:

  • Practice of 1,500 hours over the past five years in the specialty, or
  • Practice of 600 hours over the past two years in the specialty, or
  • Graduation from the specialty program within the past two years.

In addition, APNs who have prescriptive authority must attest to completing ten hours of continuing education (CE) in pharmacology/pharmacotherapeutics in the past two years.
