In order to renew an RN license, the RN must complete at least two (2) of any of the learning activities listed below within the two-year renewal period:
  1. Practice:
    1. One hundred (100) hours of practice or simulation practice, paid or unpaid, in which the nurse applies knowledge or clinical judgment in a way that influences patients, families, nurses, or organizations.
  2. Education, continuing education, e-learning, and in-service:
    1. Fifteen (15) contact hours offered by an accredited educational institution, healthcare institution, or organization (a contact hour equals not less than fifty (50) minute OR
    2. Completion of a minimum of one (1) semester credit hour of post-licensure academic education relevant to nursing practice, offered by a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education OR
    3. Completion of a board-recognized refresher course in nursing or nurse residency program OR
    4. Participation in or presentation of a workshop, seminar, conference, or course relevant to the practice of nursing and approved by an organization recognized by the board.
  3. Professional engagement:
    1. Acknowledged contributor to a published nursing-related article or manuscript OR
    2. Teaching or developing a nursing-related course of instruction OR
    3. Participation in related professional activities including research, published professional materials, nursing-related volunteer work, teaching, peer-reviewing, precepting, professional auditing, and service on nursing or healthcare-related boards, organizations, associations, or committees.

At least five (5) contact hours must directly relate to the delivery of occupational therapy services. The remaining contact hours must be germane to the practice of occupational therapy and relate to other areas of a licensee’s practice. A licensee may take online or home study courses or self competency assessments, as long as a course completion certificate is provided.

All licensed athletic trainers who are not certified after 2006 shall provide documentation of successful completion of eighty (80) hours of Board approved continuing educational activities or units during each three (3) year reporting period on forms provided by the Board. All licensed and currently certified athletic trainers may submit a summary of eighty (80) hours of Board approved continuing education activities or units during the preceding three (3) years with the renewal application to document this effort by the athletic trainer.
