Arizona Physical Therapist (PT)

PTs shall earn twenty (20) contact hours of continuing education every two years for licensure renewal.

Special Requirements

The licensee shall earn at least ten (10) contact hours from Category A continuing competence activities.
- No more than five (5) of the required contact hours from Category A may be obtained from nonclinical course work.
No more than ten (10) contact hours may be earned by the licensee during any compliance period from Categories B and C continuing competence activities.
- No more than five (5) contact hours from categories B and C may be obtained from nonclinical course work.
If the licensee’s initial license is for one (1) year or less, the licensee shall earn ten (10) contact hours from Category A continuing competence activities during the initial compliance period.
- No more than five (5) of the required contact hours from Category A may be obtained from nonclinical course work.

PTAs shall earn ten (10) contact hours of continuing education every two years for certificate renewal.

Special Requirements

The certificate holder shall earn at least six (6) contact hours from Category A continuing competence activities.
- No more than three (3) of the required contact hours from Category A may be obtained from nonclinical course work.
No more than four (4) contact hours may be earned by the certificate holder during any compliance period from Categories B and C continuing competence activities.
- No more than two (2) contact hours from Categories B and C may be obtained from nonclinical course work.
If the certificate holder’s initial certificate is for one (1) year or less, the certificate holder shall earn six (6) contact hours from Category A continuing competence activities during the initial compliance period.

Athletic Trainers must maintain BOC certification. BOC requires fifty (50) contact hours of continuing education every reporting period.

Special Requirements

An applicant for renewal of an athletic trainer license must:

Complete the renewal application.
Submit current CPR and BOC cards.
Complete at least 15 of the 50 contact hours of continuing education in the area of athletic training.
Complete a course on the Athletic Training Statutes:
- Pursuant to A.A.C. R4-49-208.D., "All licensees shall complete a course approved by the Board on the athletic training statutes and this Chapter within one year of obtaining an original license or license renewal." The actual "course" is the Board's statutes and rules. Licensees are required to read these documents (available here) and complete the statutes and rules exam before their first license renewal.
BOC requires fifty (50) contact hours of continuing education every reporting period and Emergency Cardiac Care (ECC) certification.

Special Requirements

At least two (2) contact hours must be in the area of ethics and five (5) LIVE hours
Only fifteen (15) contact hours may be completed online (live courses or activities acceptable)
No more than five (5) contact hours accepted for any combination of the following (You will only be able to obtain hours for one (1) of these classes and not five for each):
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Neonatal Advanced Life Support or Neonatal Resuscitation Program
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support for a renewal
Basic Life Support courses will not be accepted for any approved CEU
Only ten (10) cpntact hours of CEU will be accepted for any combination of NBRC specialty examination for renewal of a license
No CEU will be accepted for the NBRC Therapist Multiple Choice or Clinical Simulation Examinations for the CRT or RRT Credential

All Requirements

CNSs and APRNs shall meet the following requirements for license renewal:

Practiced as an APRN for 960 hours or more in the past five (5) years.
Hold an active Arizona RN OR current RN license with multistate privileges in another compact state.
Hold active national certification (Your APRN certification will expire when your RN license expires.

Special Requirements

APRNs who hold an active DEA license, MUST have completed a minimum of three (3) contact hours of opioid-related, substance use disorder-related or addiction-related continuing education (as required by Arizona Revised Statute 32-3248.02.
