Utah RN, LPN LicenseRenewal Guide

Last Updated December 23, 2024

A Step-By-Step Guide for Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses in Utah Looking to Renew Their License

The Utah Board of Nursing requires RNs to renew their license before January 31 of odd numbered years. LPNs to renew their license before January 31 of even numbered years. While some states set license expiration dates based on the licensees initial licensure date, Utah does things differently. Under Utahs license renewal system, all RN and LPN licenses expire as a group on January 31 every two years.

During the two years under license, RNs and LPNs must fulfill one of three continuing education requirement options. RNs and LPNs in Utah are not required to actually report CEs, but must check off on completing one of the requirement options. After completing all continuing education requirements, licensees must submit a license renewal form with a $58 non-refundable license renewal fee.
