APRNs shall earn fifty (50) contact hours of continuing education every two years for licensure renewal.
Special Requirements
  • A minimum of 30 contact hours must be in Category I, which is defined in subsection 2(A).
    • CEUfast courses meet Category I requirements.
  • By December 31, 2017 and thereafter advanced practice registered nurses with prescriptive authority must complete 3 contact hours of Category I continuing education on the prescribing of opioid medication.
  • If Certified Nurse Practitioners, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and Certified Nurse- Midwives have not prescribed drugs within the past 2 years, the applicant shall provide evidence of satisfactory completion of 15 contact hours of pharmacology within the 2 years prior to applying for approval to practice.

The following are required to maintain an active status on the CNA Registry:
  • Completion of a minimum of at least 8 hours of qualified employment every 24 months;

  • You must renew your CNA Registry listing every 24 months.
Nursing facilities must provide CNAs with no less than 12 hours per year of in-service education.

      • sponsored or approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), its successor organization or a comparable organization; or
      • sponsored by AOTA approved providers

Special Requirements
Per Maine Legislature MRS Title 32, Chapter 127-A. ATHLETIC TRAINERS:
  • For the purposes of satisfying the continuing education requirements, each application for license renewal must include current certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) or its successor or other organization approved by the department.
Per NATA
  • BOC certification is recognized by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and is the only accredited certification program for athletic trainers.
  • The BOC Recertification requirements outline the requirements to maintain your BOC certification. The requirements include information about completing the continuing education (CE) requirements, meeting the emergency cardiac care (ECC) requirements, submitting the BOC certification maintenance fee and adhering to the BOC Standards of Professional Practice.
  • BOC requires fifty (50) contact hours of continuing education every two (2) year reporting period.

Maine CCI Credentialed Specialists

A credential is active for 9-12 months after passing a CCI exam. For the first renewal, CCI credential holders must submit the renewal fee and a signature of compliance with the Code of Ethics.  
  • There are no Continuing Education Unit (CEU) requirements for the first renewal. 
Following the first renewal, maintenance of an “active status” for CCI credential holders requires the completion of the following three steps every three years, on the anniversary of the first renewal date: 
  1. The submission of renewal fees.
  2. Signature of compliance with the CCI Code of Ethics.
  3. The completion of Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
    • Certificate-Level (CCT and CRAT): sixteen (16) CEUs.
    • Advanced-Level (ACS): thirty-six (36) CEUs.
    • Registry-Level (RCES, RCIS, RCS, RCCS, RPhS, and RVS): thirty-six (36) CEUs.
Advanced and registry-level credential holders must complete thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs. The remaining 6 or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Special Requirements
Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
  • Thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs. 
  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT):
  • Sixteen (16) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT):
  • Sixteen (16) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
  • Thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs.
  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
  • Thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs.
  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
  • Thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs. 
  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
