Mississippi Continuing Education Requirements

Currently no CEU's required. 

Nurses will be required to comply with Continuing Education requirements for the renewal, endorsement, or reinstatement applications if the nurse has been out of practice for greater than five (5) years. The nurse shall complete a minimum of twenty (20) contact hours of accepted continuing education earned in the previous 2-year period immediately prior to such application toward satisfying the requirement.  

Forty (40) contact hours of continuing education concerning advanced practice must be completed each biennium. At least ten (10) of those hours must be directly related to controlled substances.

Complete a minimum of five (5) contact hours of continuing education directly related to controlled substances per State Certification Period. This requirement applies to all APRNs, irrespective of controlled substance prescriptive authority.

EXPANDED ROLE LPNs ONLY: Ten (10) contact hours of continuing education are required for the licensed practical nurse certified in IV therapy and/or hemodialysis for renewal of certification.

To be eligible for continued enrollment on the Mississippi Nurse Aide Registry, you are required to work as a nurse aide for at least one documented day (eight consecutive hours) for pay in an approved facility during the previous twenty-four (24) months. Please print and complete the paper Renewal Application, have your employer complete and sign Sections III and IV, and upload the completed form into CNA365 along with your CNA365 Renewal Application.

Continuing education is not required for renewal. Please check with your facility/employer to ensure CEUFast courses are accepted. 

30 continuing competence units each 2 year licensing period

**CEUFast courses are approved by the Florida Board of Physical Therapy Association.  Your state authorizes courses approved by another state board.

At least 25 percent (7.5 CCU) of the required continuing competence units earned during each licensure period must be directly related to the clinical practice of physical therapy. Continuing Competence (CC) activities claimed as clinical are subject to review if considered questionable. All licensees must take three (3) hours of board-approved hours of study in ethics, professionalism, or jurisprudence per licensing period as part of their total CC requirements. At least 15 of the 30 required continuing competence units must be from Certified Activities

Occupational therapists are required to earn 20 contact hours or 2 Continuing Education Units to be accrued during the 2 year licensure period.

At least 30 percent (6 Contact Hours or .6 CEU) of the required continuing education must be directly related to the clinical practice of occupational therapy. The six (6) contact hours related to clinical practice shall
be live face-to-face training i.e., no internet training, video training, television training, etc. Of the remaining required 14 hours of training, 50 percent or 7 hours may be non live face-to-face training. Non live training may include home study courses, video, internet, etc. All training shall be from approved sources.

Two (2) contact hours of an ethics course specifically related to the practice of occupational therapy shall be required during each licensure period. Ethics training may be live face-to-face training or non-live training. The hours awarded shall be included in the hours allowed for the type of training selected.

License renewal shall expire annually on 12/31. 

Continuing education requirements for license renewal shall be fulfilled during two-year periods running concurrently with the requirement to maintain certification through the BOC, Inc. Proof of the completion of continuing education as required by this section shall be turned in to the Department at the time of renewal of license, if requested.

Continuing education requirements for all licensees, as to the substance and the number of hours, shall be the same as that for BOC certification.

BOC requires Athletic Trainers to complete 50 CEUs within the 2-year reporting period.

Licenses must be renewed by Aug 31st of odd number years.  Licensees must earn 20 contact hours to renew their license.

Medical assistants in Mississippi are not required to possess a certification, registration or license to work as a medical assistant.
