Alabama CE Requirements (RN, LPN)

The Alabama Board of Nursing requires 24 hours of continuing education every 2 year renewal period.

Nurses that were licensed by examination after October 1, 2002, are required to complete a four contact hour mandatory class: The Role of the Alabama Board of Nursing: Legal, Ethical and Practice Implications. Available online from the Alabama Sate Board Website.

What are the CE requirements for nurses in Alabama?

To renew a license on active status to practice nursing in Alabama, registered nurses and licensed practical nurses must earn 24 contact hours from a board-approved or board-recognized continuing education provider [Chapter 610-X-4-.08]. The contact hours are prorated if licensed by examination, reinstatement, or endorsement during the earning period. A prorated chart is on the Board’s website, www.abn.alabama.gov, under Alabama Nursing Resource Center, then select CE Audit & Info.
