As of June 12, 2021, the Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission (NCQAC) has reduced education and active nursing practice hour requirements for active, inactive, expired, and retired-active nurse credentials, and changed the reporting period. Changes include:

Continuing education and active nursing practice hour renewals are now yearly.
Active nursing practice continuing education hours changes to at least 8 hours a year.
Active nursing practice hours changes to at least 96 hours a year.
Retired active nursing practice continuing education hours changes to at least 8 hours a year.
Retired active nursing practice hours changes to at least 24 hours a year (max of 90 days a year).  

 

Special Requirements
  • One time 6 hour suicide course.
  • Effective, January 1, 2021, all licensed nurses (RN, LPN, or ARNP) in Washington State are required to take telemedicine training if the nurse provides telemedicine services.

30 contact hours are required every two years on or before licensee's birthday and 250 hours of practice in the ARNP role at time of renewal obtained within that two-year renewal cycle.
 

An additional 15 hours in pharmacology is required if you have prescriptive authority within the last two years.

The changes to CE hours are now from 45 hours every 3 years to a minimum of 8 hours yearly.

Special Requirements

All ARNPs who prescribe opioids in Washington State must complete a one-time four-hour continuing education on best practices in the prescribing of opioids.

One time 6-hour suicide course.

Effective, January 1, 2021, all licensed nurses who provide telemedicine services (RN, LPN, or ARNP) in Washington State are required to complete telemedicine training.

Washington Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

CEUfast is not an approved provider for Washington State CNAs for ANY courses.

There are no CE requirements for general license renewal, but there are CE requirements for specialized departments. The specialized department CE requirements must be met through an approved provider.

Washington Home Health Aid (HHA)

Home care aides must renew their license every year. Credentials expire on the credential holder’s birthday and may be renewed within 90 days of the expiration date.

Twelve hours of continuing education approved by the Department of Social and Health Services is due each year with renewal of the certification. The home care aide must certify that he or she has completed the required continuing education with their renewal. The Department of Health randomly audits home care aides. If you are chosen for the continuing education audit, the department will contact you and request documentation that you completed the required continuing education during the required timeframe.

Athletic trainers must renew their license every year on or before their birthday.

Athletic trainers are required to complete 50 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years. At least ten of those hours must include evidence-based practice.

*A licensed athletic trainer may alternatively meet the requirement of fifty hours of continuing education if they hold a current certification from the board of certification for the athletic trainer (BOC). The required documentation is proof of certification during the two-year period.

To renew a respiratory therapy license, you must have 30 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years. Respiratory therapists must have completed this requirement by their birth date every two years. The CE hours must have been obtained during the preceding two years, from birth date to birth date. If you're reporting this year, any CE that was obtained before your birth date two years ago or after your birth date this year can't be used to satisfy the continuing education or employment requirement. The expiration date for all credentials is the practitioner's birthday.
Special Requirements
A minimum of 10 hours must be in courses approved by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).
