RN, LPN Requirement:
Renewal is dependent on meeting one of three of the following requirements:
Continuing education: Complete 100 hours of continuing education within the past two years prior to renewal date. For new graduates (graduated within the past two years), the hours are prorated based on the length of time between graduation and the first renewal.
National certification as a NP may count for up to 50 hours of structured CE.
In addition, CMAs must have eight hours of medication-related continuing education during the two years immediately preceding the certificate expiration date.
Pain Management Continuing Education Requirement: All nurses and health care providers are mandated to complete seven hours of pain management - related continuing education within 24 months of the first renewal of their Oregon license. One of the seven total hours must be completed by taking the online course offered by the Oregon Pain Management Commission on their website at: http://www.oregon.gov/oha/OHPR/PMC/pages/index.aspx.
The remaining six hours can be of your choice, from CE courses that are accredited by an established accrediting body (such as another state board of nursing or national organization) for continuing nursing education. NOTE: This is a one-time requirement and does not have to be repeated for future renewals.
Expiration is midnight the day before your birthday in even or odd years based upon if your birth year was an even or odd numbered year. (i.e. 1977 = odd, 1976 = even). Renewal notices are sent out to email addresses on file with the OSBN office six-to-eight weeks prior to license expiration.
