Course Description

Author:    Maryam Mamou (BSN, RN, CWOCN)

Part of a healthcare professional’s duty while caring for their patient is to respect their patient’s legal rights. This course teaches users how to incorporate rights into their practice. Healthcare professionals will learn how to accept a patient’s right to refuse treatment, understand working within the patient’s living will, durable power of attorney for healthcare and DNR orders. They will also understand how the Affordable Healthcare Act affects patient’s rights.

All professions included in the target audience will benefit from this course as they interact with and treat patients in a variety of settings. This course will be useful to PTs and PTAs when communicating treatment decisions with patients; respect and nondiscrimination of patients; patient's safety and security; and when dealing with complaints, grievances and appeals.
