Completion of two of the following:

1. Thirty (30) contact hours of continuing education within the specialty area of nursing practice and submission of proof of current national certification within that specialty.

1.5 hours must be related to the prevention of medication errors. 

2.  Three hundred twenty (320) hours of active nursing practice in the previous biennium which must be certified by supervisor or designee on the Employer Verification form provided by the Board.

OR

* Participation in fifteen (15) hours of approved professional activities documented and certified by the supervisor, client or manager of the activity; or organization on the Professional Activity Form obtainable from the VIBNL. Note: This activity may be utilized by those nurses who hold an active license but have been unable to fulfill the "active nursing practice" requirement.
 
Special Requirements
Five (5) of the mandated number of contact hours must be obtained through seminars or a formalized continuing education offering (i.e.: professional association conferences, on-line courses, Board approved community-based offerings, university offerings).

RNs must complete two of the following:

1. Fifteen (15) contact hours of continuing education related to nursing practice. Contact hours may be obtained online, by attending workshops, or through individual study (e.g. certification preparation).

1.5 hours must be related to the prevention of medication errors. 

2. Three hundred twenty (320) hours of active nursing practice in the previous biennium which must be certified by the supervisor or designee on the Employer Verification section of the renewal application.

3. Participation in fifteen (15) hours of approved professional activities documented and certified by the supervisor, client, or manager of the activity; or organization on the Professional Activity Form obtainable from the VIBNL. Note: This activity may be utilized by those nurses who hold an active license but have been unable to fulfill the "active nursing practice" requirement.

Virgin Islands CCI Credentialed Specialists

A credential is active for 9-12 months after passing a CCI exam. For the first renewal, CCI credential holders must submit the renewal fee and a signature of compliance with the Code of Ethics.  
  • There are no Continuing Education Unit (CEU) requirements for the first renewal. 
Following the first renewal, maintenance of an “active status” for CCI credential holders requires the completion of the following three steps every three years, on the anniversary of the first renewal date: 
  1. The submission of renewal fees.
  2. Signature of compliance with the CCI Code of Ethics.
  3. The completion of Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
    • Certificate-Level (CCT and CRAT): sixteen (16) CEUs.
    • Advanced-Level (ACS): thirty-six (36) CEUs.
    • Registry-Level (RCES, RCIS, RCS, RCCS, RPhS, and RVS): thirty-six (36) CEUs.
Advanced and registry-level credential holders must complete thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs. The remaining 6 or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Special Requirements
Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
  • Thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs. 
  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT):
  • Sixteen (16) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT):
  • Sixteen (16) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
  • Thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs.
  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
  • Thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs.
  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
  • Thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs. 
  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
  • Thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs. 
  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Registered Phlebology Sonographer (RPhS):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
  • Thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs. 
  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
  • Thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs. 
  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
