RN, LPN Requirement:
24 contact hours every 2 year renewal period prorated for the first renewal. For the first license renewal, earn four (4) contact hours of Board provided continuing education related to Board functions, the Nurse Practice Act, regulations, professional conduct, and accountability and one contact hour for each calendar month remaining in the earning period up to a maximum of 24 contact hours including the mandatory class. This mandatory course is provided by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
Special Requirement:
Nurses (RN and LPN) that are licensed by examination after October 1, 2002, are required to complete a four contact hour mandatory class: The Role of the Alabama Board of Nursing: Legal, Ethical and Practice Implications.

CNA Requirement:
Must work at least 8 hours every 24 months in a nursing home, hospital, home health agency, hospice agency, or mental health facility for paid compensation. Volunteer work does not count. Private sitting, assisted living facilities, and doctor's office work does not count.
